SHANNOW is a progressive metal and alternative metal songwriter, producer and vocalist. His music brings heavy riffs together with classical and gothic influences, deep bass vocals and lyrics that examine human behaviour without looking away.
For SHANNOW, a song begins with an idea worth pursuing. The arrangement may be intricate, but every change must earn its place. A violin can carry the lead; a piano can leave a question hanging; a distorted guitar can provide the answer. Complexity matters only when it makes the song stronger.
His lyrics often start with a contradiction: people who are plainly visible yet treated as though they do not exist, words that mean one thing to the speaker and another to everyone else, or a person who insists he is in control while reaching for another drink. SHANNOW writes about isolation, conformity, mortality and the less comfortable parts of being human. He prefers a precise line to a reassuring one.
A solitary artist with a dry sense of humour and little patience for pretence, SHANNOW makes music for listeners who value atmosphere, musicianship and songs that reveal more on a second listen. He does not expect everyone to agree with what he says. He does expect the songs to mean something.
